Soave Vineyards
Ever since the beginning of the 20th century researchers have identified in Soave, the eastern part of the hilly area around Verona, a specific identity linked to the origin of the soil, predominantly volcanic, which differentiates it from the other historic areas of Bardolino and Valpolicella. The Soave Doc area is, as a matter of fact, the most significant one among all the other areas in Veneto Region, that produce wine of denomination of controlled origin.
Considering the fossil discoveries we can say that Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grapes are the result of a long, natural interaction between the individual grape variety and its environment, whose characteristic is a mild climate and a tuffaceous soil of volcanic origin with calcareous outcrops. Garganega grape grows best in the Alpone valley, Tramigna valley, Illasi valley and Mezzane valley.
It perfumes of almond and white flowers, the grape ripening is complete in October and its skin is very tough and deep yellow (verging on red) when ripe. Trebbiano di Soave grape, which had gradually given way to the more exuberant Garganega grape, is coming back lately as ideal partner in new enological profiles for the future Soave, blending its tangy liveliness with the typical structure and density of the Garganega variety. The use of the “Colli Scaligeri” specification, together with the “Soave” denomination is reserved to the wine obtained from grapes picked and vinified in the towns of Roncà, Montecchia di Crosara and San Giovanni Ilarione.
