Marcato Colli Berici

Overview

La Giareta Estate, with its famous Baraldo and Pianalto vineyards, is situated in the heart of the Berici Hills between the two small villages of Sarego and Grancona 20 km south-west of Vicenza.

Wineyards

La Giareta Estate covers 45 hectares of land, 35 of which are planted with vines. These are divided into small plots: the Asinara vineyard covers 12 hectares with 4 hectares of Baraldo vineyard alongside and the Ai Girardi covers 7 hectares and Pianalto 2 ha.
The varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are grown at La Giareta estate together with the native autochthonous Tai Rosso, which covers 4 hectares of vineyards and also the white variety Pinot Grigio.
The soil is typically red and white with abundant chalk and clay with a kind of rocky soil and small layer of earth at an altitude of 250-300 meters, enjoying warm windy days and cool nights during the growing season.
La Giareta is the last estate took by Marcato family in the nineties and almost completely replanted with the selected clones of the better suited varieties in this soil recognized after almost 7 years of experimentation with new trellis systems for enhancing the sun exposure and the consistency in production. The grapes are now picked in about four weeks between the middle of September and the middle of October and crushed and fermented at Marcato winery.

Wines

The production goes from the premiun Baraldo and Pianalto wines to the typical Asinara Merlot and Palladiano Tai Rosso and the basic Cab Franc La Giareta and Pinot Grigio La Giareta. all the wines are vinified and carefully aged at Marcato winery in Roncà.
