Lessini

The Lessini Hills, the hilly area between Verona and Vicenza, are the production site of the Lessini Durello Doc, whose heart is the autochthonous grape Durello. The territory of production comprehends the following areas: Illasi valley, Tramigna valley, the north part of the Alpone valley reaching the Chiampo valley, the Logra valley and the Agno valley.

Ancient proof of the existence of Durello grape go back to prehistory, in fact fossils found in Vestenanuova di Bolca in Alpone valley, witness its origin and are ancestors of the actual “vitis vinifera”. Furthermore, in recent times, the Earl Giulio da Schio published in 1905 a book entitled “Enologia e Viticoltura della provincia di Vicenza” (Enology and Wine-growing in the province of Vicenza), where he wrote about Durello and its “sugary grapes” widespread on the Arzignano hills.

The Durello grape is a vigorous variety, resistant to illnesses and able to adapt to calcareous soil of volcanic origin. The wine is fresh, lively, dry and straight, perfect to be served together with aperitifs, refined dishes as fish dishes like the traditional Baccalà, oysters or trout, light starters or delicate cheese dishes.
