Colli Berici

The D.O.C area Colli Berici is very wide and covers all the comune of the Berici Hills area south of Vicenza. Is is an area rich in history and art, which is worth visiting for its architectural masterpieces of the past and for its precious wines. The climate is mild and the peculiar soil encouraged even in ancient time the growing of grape on these hills.

The wine varieties, all of them of excellent quality is large and offers 7 D.O.C. wines: 4 white wines, 2 red wines, 1 rosé wine. This variety enables almost every food coupling. The denomination “Colli Berici” on the label refers specifically to the wines obtained from grapes coming from the correspondent species: Garganega or Garganego, Tocai Italico, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco for the white wines, Merlot and Cabernet for the red wines, Tocai Rosso for the rosé wine.

The white wines have typical characteristics that prefer coupling with delicate dishes, soups, risotto dishes, appetizer and fish plates. Tocai Rosso, a rosé wine typical of this area, represents the wine most linked to the food traditions of the Berici hills. Usually it accompanies Baccalà, a characteristic fish recipe of Vicenza. Finally come Cabernet and Merlot, the first one is a red wine ideal for red meat and hunting recipes, the second one is less binding, but nevertheless well perfumed and harmonic in taste and goes together with rabbit recipes, poultry, guinea hen and turkey dishes.

The D.O.C. wine from the Berici hills can satisfy even the most demanding palate, particularly if one is looking for a combination of beauty and art from the Palladio and the preciousness and taste of the local cuisine.
